Communication Assessment

After taking the Communication Anxiety Inventory, Verbal Aggressiveness Scale, and Listening Styles Profile, I learned a lot about my communication skills.  I scored fairly well on these assessments.  As a result, I learned that I need to work on my aggressiveness in communication and my listening skills.  This information has helped me become a better communicator in my school.  I work with a diverse group of teachers and parents.  Therefore, I need to be more aware in my communication to ensure that I do not offend others.  I also learned this week that schemas can affect my perceptions in communication.

  1. Tammy,

So glad to hear that you scored well on the communication assessments. I think that we all must be more aware of other people and their perceptions before we begin to speak. One way to do that is to do more listening than talking in order to understand them. We also must know our own culture and communication styles so that we do not offend others. These exercises were very helpful to me as well. I hope to use the knowledge to become a better communicator myself.

  2. Tammy very well said. I faired well in the assessment tests as well. You are correct in saying that it is imperative to be sensitive to all that you meet.

  3. Seem as though we scored about the same in those areas. I agree with completely on controlling your agressiveness when working in a field where speaking and meeting new people is mandatory.

  4. Tammy,
I scored moderate on the assessments also. I agree that we have to work on our communication skill in the work place because we do not want to offend anyone. A question ask on the assessment do you get nervous speaking in a crowd. I do but one day i would like to be a early childhood seminar presenter. Therefore today I know I need to work on my public speaking.
