I work in a Head Start environment. The Head Start classroom would have sections and learning areas to promote learning activities for children. The materials in the classroom would include photos and books that represent the diverse group of children in the class.
I would include:
- Books that promote diversity
- Images of people who represent the children in the class
- Music
- Toys and activities
- Art
The classroom would have a active play area, a reading area, and a learning center. The children would work in small groups at tables in the class.
Tammy,
ReplyDeleteI am familiar with the Headstart community. Do you feel that your current headstart environment is anti-bias? My mother works in Headstart and has made many comments that the environment isn't bias but it is not culturally diverse nor does the staff practice anti-bias methods towards gender stereotypes such as the boys dressing up in the little dresses. Is this how your headstart is? Also I wanted to ask you about the music you plan to include...is there any specifics that you have about music you plan to incorporate?
Thanks for your blog!
